When we were asked if we wanted to hug a koala bear whilst in Sydney, I unknowingly emitted a high-pitched squeeeeeee! My brothers rolled their eyes at each other, in the knowledge that there was nothing to be done - they were going to have to accompany me to Featherdale Wildlife Park.
Getting up close and personal with the koalas was amazing...
... Although this one didn't look too impressed when I tried to share his lunch!
We also met some very charming kookaburras sitting on what may or may not have been an old gum tree...
My favourite thing about Featherdale is that, for one dollar, you can buy an ice cream cone full of kangaroo and wallaby food. The little critters are so tame and will hop on up to you and eat from your hand.
It took some serious convincing for me to not try and smuggle this little guy out with me. We formed quite the bond, you know.
Despite my brothers' gripings, they were just as excited as I was about all the animals, once we'd arrived. They're a big bunch of softies, really!
This is Big Bro with a kangaroo...
And Little Bro with a sleepy koala.
Admittedly, Middle Brother is a little less sentimental than the rest of us, and got a bit cross when a wallaby stole his whole ice cream cone!
Thievery aside, though, Featherdale is an amazing day out. The park is so full of happy, well-cared-for animals, and their conservation efforts are to be applauded. It's about an hour's journey from central Sydney, so bring a good book, but thoroughly worth the journey in my humble opinion!
I'm now back in Singapore, with lots to tell you! I'm going to try and update more regularly, but you can always follow me on Instagram for a more up-to-date telling of events. A picture is worth a thousand words, after all!
So, do you have any recommendations for me while I'm in Singapore?
