OUTFIT

Hey Y'All.

Autumn is here! I can say this with certainty, because this morning I selected my biggest and snuggliest jumper from my warfloordrobe, I feel totally justified once more in wearing a giant knitted hat, and because I find myself favouring plummy coloured lipstick at the moment. Please note how much progress towards becoming a Real Girl has been made - I've actually started wearing lipstick. Well, sometimes, anyway.

Whenever I take pictures for the blog, most of them come out looking something like this for some reason. I think it's what my face actually looks like most of the time. Anyway, I thought it was high time I shared one with you.

I have massive love for Autumn and Winter dressing to be honest. Although I think that there's a lot more fun to be had experimenting with looks in the Summer, I constantly find myself panicking that I'm showing too much skin off. I'm definitely more one of the "big jumper please, and actually, pass me another slice of apple pie, I need the extra weight to keep me warm" gang than I am the "I look bitchin' in a crop top and disco shorts because  I have self discipline" type. It's sad but it's true.

Anyway, look at me, going off topic. Here's what I wore today...

Hat - Oxfam; Necklace - Links of London; Handbag - Vida Vida; Jumper - Liberty (vintage); Skirt - American Apparel; Boots - Topshop.
I will basically be wearing this, or some variation of this, for the next few months. Except soon I'll have to pop a coat on over the top, and the tights will become wooly. Goodness me, I love lazy fashion.

Right, that's all for today, folks. I've suddenly realised that Winter is coming (cheeky Game of Thrones reference, because everyone loves a girl geek), and I need to make some Apple Streusel cake and locate my missing glove. I know I've got a bit of time, but I like to be prepared.

Are you a Summer or Winter girl, dress-wise?

Mona.

GIVEAWAY

Monday, 17 September 2012

Hi Kids,

The lovely folks over at Pebble London and I figured that you deserved a treat. I have been very generously given this leather daisy bracelet and ring set, to hand over to one of you lot.

Pretty, no?

I love this set so, so much. So much, in fact, that I'm a bit jealous that one of you gets to take it home! They're so pretty, the craftsmanship is impeccable, and they're really adjustable, which means that you can use them for all sorts of things...

Well, you know me, and my total fixation with hair ornaments. As far as I was concerned, there was only one thing to be done with this bracelet.

A little bending, a couple of kirby grips, and wham, bam, thank you, Ma'am, you've got yourself an adorable pseudo-Alice band. The ring also makes an adorable hair-tie. Or hair clip. It also looks good wrapped around the strap of a handbag. You get the idea. There is nothing that cannot be done with them!

Today I accessorised with these, and it was a bit sad taking them off, but I just keep having to remind myself that they're not for me - they are for you (yes, I'm a tad jealous). Here's what I wore them with...

Jewellery - Pebble London; Jacket - Topshop; Dress - Joseph (via Oxfam); Boots - Topshop
The outfit feels a tad naked without the daisies, to be honest... I'm about to pop out for lunch, I think I'm going to have to revert back to the old Crown and Glory go-to. That always cheers up my tresses.

If you'd like to enter the Giveaway, there are a few Ts and Cs...
  1. You must follow my blog via GFC
  2. You must follow Pebble London on Twitter
  3. You must leave a comment, and let me know where you come from as this time, I'm going international, baby...
If you'd like an extra entry, then you could...
  1. Like Pebble London on Facebook
  2. Tweet about the giveaway, with a link (and mentioning both @monablogs and @PebbleLDN so that we know)
Now hurry up and enter, before I change my mind! Entry closes on the 24th September.

I really must try and be more gracious about these things, mustn't I?

OH VERY DEAR

Howdy Partner(s),

So depending on how long you've been reading, you may recall that I had a run-in with the delightful Oscar May back in December, to shoot a music video for a band called Yours and Mine. The whole affair, whilst certainly being an experience, left me running for the comfort of home, Harry Potter audiobooks, and a good cup of tea.

I didn't think anything more of it, until a few months ago. Then this emerged on my Facebook wall.

Awkward. Very, very awkward. This is the single cover for the song. Which was unexpected. As I'm sure you can imagine, this left me as somewhat of a laughing stock with my friends and family.

And then the memes happened. This is my personal fave.

Yeah. Nice.

I'd just about started to live this one down, give or take the odd share on my Facebook wall once again, just to make sure I couldn't completely forget (thanks guys).

Until Friday. Then this little peach showed up.

Honestly? I haven't watched it. Too embarrassed. I have a weird fear of seeing or hearing myself recorded (hence the fact that I haven't delved into the terrifying world of vlogging yet), but I hear from my friends that it's hilarious. So here you go. Enjoy. Happy Sunday.
I'm going into hiding until this one dies down. Maybe one day I'll be brave enough to actually watch the video. Who knows?

BIG KIDS

Howdy!

Things sometimes start to feel quite grown-up, don't they? Recently, I've found myself longing for the days when my biggest worry in life was whether I had enough money to buy a Mini Milk (remember when Mini Milks were 5p?), or if my very embarrassing Mother had given me a normal sandwich in my lunch-box*. Things like flat hunting and gainful employment seem like a whole bigger and scarier affair.  It's been playing on my mind for a while...

... Until yesterday, that is. My lovely friend Will came to visit me in London for what was effectively a twenty four hour play-date.

After a huge supper at the Royal China**, we scampered off to Queen's Ice and Bowl, the perfect venue for unleashing your inner child.

First on the itinerary was ice skating, where we both amazed ourselves and each other - Will by not falling over, despite a lot of flailing, and me by ice skating backwards. It's okay. Go on. You have my permission to be impressed.

I wear: Beanie - ASOS; Jewellery - Katrina Phillips; Jacket and Cropped Tee - Topshop; Skirt - Appletree Boutique
Will wears: Old clothes because he "hates shopping". Yeah, weird.

Bowling saw us both getting fiercely competitive... I'm proud to say, however, that I just cinched my victory with a flukey well-executed spare. Phew. Will then more than reclaimed his honour by thrashing me at a game of air hockey which actually got us a bit of an audience.

Once the staff at Queen's insisted that we left so that they could close and go to bed, we bought some gelato and wondered off home, where we collapsed in front of a Disney movie before calling it a night. The fun continued today - we made pancakes for breakfast, and then spent the afternoon wandering around the Natural History Museum, where we worked on our bear impressions, marvelled at the dinosaurs, and where Will led me, totally unsuspecting, into an earthquake simulator, which I don't mind admitting was a bit of a shock.

The last stop, naturally, was the gift shop, where I'm saddened to report that Will was mauled by a Tyrannosaurus Rex and a Velociraptor.

Don't worry though, the prognosis looks good and I'm confident that he'll make a full recovery.

All in all, Will's visit was amazing. Living in London, where "playing" is a term more commonly associated with champagne and high heels, it's easy to forget about the simpler, more innocent pleasures in life... I think it's a shame, because regressing to child every know and then, and just being fun and silly, is actually a pretty effective tonic for the stresses that life brings us.

We have all the time in the world to be grown-up, and glamourous. Don't forget to play, too, kids.

Do you have any spots or activities to recommend for Will's next visit?

Mona.

*Inevitably, this was a no. My Ma only makes two sandwiches - cheese and jam, or sausage and marmalade. Yeah.
** I would hand-on-heart say that this is, in my opinion, the best Chinese restaurant in London. My family are regulars,               and some of the longer-serving staff members remember me in bibs.

INSTA-HOME

Hello Cool Cats,

Here are some Instagram snaps from my last few days at home, which were amazing. Although there is never a dull moment in London, sometimes I need a sea breeze and salt water to clear out the cobwebs. I'm lucky enough to only live a hop, skip, and a two hour journey away from home, so when two days off in a row are presented to me, it's easy enough to get back to where I come from.

Here are some of the highlights from my trip:

(1)  The most and least photogenic bunnies on the planet - Belinda Carlisle and Toby (2) Slipping into a Kigu to warm up from the sea (3) Chats with Mama Chipped and cuddles with the pooch.
(4) "Lunch" - Yorkshire Tea and an Eton Mess Sunday (5) Catch-up with Fran - we don't deal well when separated for long (6) Sharing is caring
(7) Bunting and real china (8) Catching some rays (9) Going in for a dip - and I absolutely do not believe that September is the warmest time for swimming, just FYI.
(10) Gorgeous lilies to brighten up the bedroom (11) Blogging HQ, AKA the best place ever, AKA bed (12) My favourite Rituals candles, Under a Fig Tree.
As of today, I'm back in the Big Bad City and I've got lots planned to tell you all about... If you like this, and fancy more, my Instagram name is monablogs.

In other news, you may have noticed that I've acquired myself my own domain name... If so, give yourself a pat on the back. Spoiler alert, there's actually a very pretty new blog design being coded for me too! Yeeeeah, check me out, all fancy!

SHENANIGANS

Hello Creatures,

So I just found this in my drafts, I seem to have had a malfunction when publishing last Friday! Sorry, but here it is!

So as I said yesterday, I was lucky enough to be free to scuttle around London with my bestie from home, Fran. After work, I went to meet her, popped on my new favourite dress, and we hit the town.

Necklace - Katrina Phillips; Dress - Handwritten; Handbag - Chanel; Shoes - Kurt Geiger.

A wonderful night of running around New Bond Street for Fashion's Night Out ensued, followed by cocktails at Freud and champagne and dancing at Cuckoo

My Muji fan is my new must-have item for a night out. Seriously, a wonderful investment for £6. Air con in a lot of functions leaves somewhat to be desired, so the fan is an excellent deterrent for sweaty fringe, plus you can create your own little wind-machine effect whilst fluttering your eyelashes at whatever gentleman takes your fancy. Obviously, this isn't what I do. I'm more of a poke-myself-in-the-eye-then-drop-my-fan kinda gal, that's just how I roll.

We also made friends with the lovely Charlie, a musician, model, and phenomenal dancer...

Suffice to say, Fran's little venture up to London was quite the pick-up that I'd needed. My mood slump is over, I'm bright-eyed and bushy-tailed once more, and I'm heading home next week for a few days of Ma's cooking, seaside, and my own bed.

Bliss.

PLAY TIME

Thursday, 6 September 2012

Hi Kids!

Remember Fran?

Well, she's back. We're going out to play on Bond Street. For Vogue Fashion's Night Out. And we are excited.

Cue stupid Photobooth pictures.

Because that's what friends are for.

I've been a bit out of sorts recently. I think a good old-fashioned night out with Fran should sort me right out. We solemnly swear to take lots of photos, and regale you with our adventures tomorrow.

Will we be seeing you there?

Mona.
